This is happening because they are recirculating the air to the patients like what the nurse in NYC talked about. Basically killing them with CO2.
Happy Hypoxia? It sounds like the body’s trying to use the Bohr effect to cause a pCO2/pO2 gradient so the rbc releases as much oxygen as possible from Hgb. Problem 1: long term low oxygen sats results in tissue damage and stress response including oxidative stress . Problem 2: adding supplemental oxygen leading to increased oxidative stress response. Solution: transition patient from aerobic to (near) anaerobic respiration. Problem: some use Hyperbaric Therapy for induced hypothermia which is likely bad in this case. Solution: Do what should be done… And the happy hypoxics are doing that or trying to. The doctors should be working to facilitate that.

If the virus blocks heme receptors then the hemoglobin cant bind O2 or CO2. The CO2 levels wont raise if the cells cant get hemoglobin to carry it away. The cells will be toxic but it wouldn’t be sensed. There is study on this from China. This is computational data. But because this virus is new, it still should be considered.
